Film is one of the most personal ways to connect with people across time and space. Through film we can speak our own stories and share our message directly. It is a crucial medium for amplifying Indigenous stories.

We have created several shorts to amplify Indigenous conservation. We’ve also collaborated on several feature films.

If we are going to turn around what’s happening to our planet, our work needs to be informed by relationship, reciprocity, and reconciliation – the values at the heart of Indigenous ways of knowing.

Language shapes our perception of reality. Many Indigenous languages are verb based. This creates a connection with the environment that is a living connection. The environment is not a static thing, it reaches, it forces, it runs, it grows. Conservation, managing an ecosystem, is a settler invention. Native cultures and languages know we don’t manage anything. How are we imperfect beings going to manage an entire ecosystem? We’re not going to, we can only be a part of it.

Buffalo serve as a keystone species for the Blackfoot lands and culture. Returning herds to the North American landscape will create a cascading effect – a return. We’ll see things return that we didn’t even know we lost – spiritually, culturally, and ecologically.
